Home Depot Worker Charged in Theft

John Koch, 23, was charged with stealing $469 worth of tools last week from the Home Depot in Fairfield, where he is employed. Police say Koch aoaded a shopping cart with an air compressor, saw blades and a framing square and then left the store without paying for the items, police said. Police say they also discovered a Sturm Ruger .380-caliber handgun, two boxes of ammunition and a large knife in Koch's car.

He was charged with sixth-degree larceny, third-degree forgery and two counts of weapons in a motor vehicle. He was released on $1,000 bond and is set to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 3.

Police say Koch attempted to steal the tools at around 2 p.m. on Friday and was stopped by officers and arrested. Police said he asked if he could get medicine from his car and was accompanied to it by an officer. While he was retrieving the medicine, the officer spotted a large knife under the driver's seat and the handgun in the center console next to the medication. Koch told police that he needed the gun to protect himself from his girlfriend's ex-husband.

Jackson allegedly told police he bought the bike for $25 from people in Bridgeport, police said. The bike was valued at $450 and was reported stolen from an unlocked Edison Avenue garage in Fairfield earlier on Saturday, police said. Jackson was held in lieu of $1,000 bond and is set to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 3.
