Hurricane Sandy Knocks Out Power For 97 Percent Of Fairfield As Of Tues AM

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Hurricane Sandy knocked out power for 97 percent of Fairfield customers as of Tuesday morning, according to United Illuminating Company reports.

An estimated 21,374 customers in Fairfield were without power 7 a.m. Tuesday. It’s unclear when customers can expect power to return.

The National Weather Service has downgraded Sandy to a post-tropical cyclone, but the storm is still producing sustained winds up to 65 mph according to the NWS 5 a.m. update. A wind advisory is still in effect for Fairfield County until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Weather officials said the brunt of the storm hit the area Monday night, but additional power outages could occur throughout Tuesday. Nearly 620,000 customers lost power across Connecticut during Hurricane Sandy, according to C L and P and United illuminating Company reports.
