A 39-year-old Bridgeport man stabbed his girlfriend to death in their home and kidnapped their 6-year-old daughter, prompting an Amber Alert throughout the metro region, police said. The girl was found safe about eight hours later and over 300 miles away after a police chase and crash near State College, Pa., police said. Oscar After Hernandez was taken into police custody in connection with the homicide, it was learned that he had been deported to his native El Salvador in 2013 after an assault conviction. 

Bunnell High School 10th-grader Sarah Harrison was named the winner of this year’s Connecticut Doodle 4 Google Competition. Her winning artwork was based on the prompt “What I see for the future…” Google said, “Sarah’s work specifically stood out, and we were encouraged to see her represent values like inclusion and tolerance in her art.” To vote for her Doodle in a national competition, click  here.

Norwalk Police have arrested Onaje Smith, 18, of Bridgeport, who they believe was the shooter in the robbery and wounding of a Chinese food deliveryman on Derby Road back in January. Police also arrested Jeremy Middleton, 18, of Stamford, as taking part in the robbery — the fourth suspect to be charged in the case. 

Itching to take a trip overseas and looking for an alternative airport? Norwegian Air International is coming to Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks starting June 17 with $65 fares to Edinburgh, Scotland.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed an executive order designed to protect transgender students in public schools after President Donald Trump's rolling back of Obama-era federal guidelines on school bathrooms.

Two Radio Shack employees were charged with stealing $8,500 worth of cellphones from the store, New Canaan Police said.

About 500 Danbury High students staged a peaceful walkout, with kids streaming out of classes and onto the football field. They were protesting a decision not to press charges against a Trump supporter who harassed minority students at the end of the school day on Inauguration Day. Students said America is made greater with immigrants.

A student at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield who accused two SHU football players of raping her at an off-campus party in Bridgeport confessed that she made up the story, according to police. She was then arrested and charged with filing a false report and tampering with evidence.

A deeply rooted pride for Connecticut led a brother-and-sister team to start The Two Oh Three — an apparel line that highlights everything "203" with shirts, hoodies, hats, cups, keychains and even a doormat. Tory and Roscoe Brown grew up in Westport and now live in Fairfield.

Brooklee Han, a Redding native and 2014 Olympian, stepped up her game as she produced the best score of her elite figure skating career at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in South Korea. With her new career high, Han has set her sights on making a second trip to the Olympics as a member of Team Australia.

A quartet of Stratford friends have pooled their talents to open Liberty Rock Tavern, a popular new eatery they opened just over the Milford border in Devon in October. 

A naked woman identified as Celina Kelly, 32, was arrested after breaking into a rectory at St. Clement's Church in Stamford and destroyed items, police said.

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy joined other officials at the immigrant resource center Building One Community in Stamford to reassure those in attendance that they will do everything they can to protect immigrants in the wake of crackdowns by President Donald Trump.

But he also took the opportunity to criticize many of the policies of President Donald Trump. 

A crowd of over 1,100 people filling Norwalk Concert Hall cheered U.S. Rep. Jim Himes as he held his first town hall meeting with voters since Donald Trump was inaugurated. He answered questions on a range of issues he disagrees with, including Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and Trump's executive order on immigration.
