"Stinging jellyfish are present in the water at all coastal beaches (not Lake Mohegan) on most days but is influenced by the wind," the Fairfield Beach Update website says.

According to website, the onshore breezes tend to increase the number of jellyfish along the shore.

There have also been complaints of swimmers itch reported by residents, which can be caused by the large snail populations in Connecticut waterfronts. Anyone who swims or wades in infested water may be at risk but the larvae that cause swimmers itch are more likely to be present in shallow water by the shoreline.
