Sacred Heart University has agreed to purchase Jewish Senior Service’s current property on Jefferson Street for $16.5 million after the relocation, which is expected to be completed by spring 2016. The purchase would add 15.6 acres of adjacent land to the university's main campus

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Campus on Park Avenue would be named in appreciation of their lead gift, according to a press release.

“Jewish Senior Services is thrilled to lead the way in bringing the household model of nursing home care to Connecticut,” said Andrew H. Banoff, president and CEO of Jewish Senior Services. “We believe this model will improve the quality of life not only for our residents, but for their families as well. The household model of nursing home care has a residential design and supports the philosophy of person-centered care.”

Each household will include 14 private bedrooms, bathrooms, shared kitchens, and a dining and living room area.

Jewish Senior Services will offer the new campus its full range of programs including long-term care, short-term rehabilitation and outpatient therapy. It plans to add assisted living.

The new campus will also house offices for Jewish Senior Services programs such as the Friedman Home Care Agency, Chaifetz Family Hospice and Institute on Aging.

Sacred Heart President John J. Petillo said in a press release that he hopes the purchase of the Jewish Senior Services’ current property will expand facilities that could be offered to future students and solve the current shortage of on-campus housing.
