FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The FBI has been flying small planes equipped with video and cellphone surveillance technology over 30 cities, according to U.S. News and World Report.

The planes are operated by front companies for the FBI, which said it created the false companies to protect the planes and the pilots. It also said the flights were part of ongoing investigations, but the surveillance equipment was at times used without a judge's approval, U.S. News and World Report said.
