A Bridgeport man has been charged with trying to steal prescription medications and other medical supplies from a Fairfield medical office. Jose Franceschi, 47, of Seaview Avenue was stopped while trying to walk out of the Orthopedic Specialty Group on Kings Highway Cutoff Wednesday with an estimated $1,000 worth of supplies, police said.
Office employees told police that Franceschi was able to get into the medical supply closet around noon Wednesday. He allegedly grabbed syringes, bandages, alcohol-soaked preparation pads and samples of Cymbalta, an anti-depressant. The receptionist said she saw Franceschi walk out of the closet with a bulge in his pocket and demanded to see what he had. Franceschi showed the employee the drugs he had taken, police said.
He was charged with fifth-degree larceny and illegally obtaining prescription medications. He was held on a $500 bond and is due in court June 3.
