Merritt Parkway Reopens In Both Directions After Crash In Fairfield

The road reopened at about 12:30 p.m., after it was shut down for nearly two hours, DOT said. 

Delays were still reported in the area. The parkway was snow-covered after a morning of heavy snowfall. 

original story: FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Merritt Parkway was closed in both directions between Exits 46 and 47 because of a motor vehicle accident, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said. 

A two-vehicle accident was reported Friday, Feb. 5 at 10:51 a.m. between Exits 46 and 47, DOT said. Other crashes were also reported in the stretch. 

Exit 46 is for Route 59, and Exit 47 is for Park Avenue in Trumbull.

It was not known how long it would take to clear the accident scenes. 

The roads are reportedly slow-going and snow-covered after a morning storm across Fairfield County. 

The region remains under a Winter Storm Advisory until 1 p.m. Friday. Over 5 inches of snow has reportedly fallen this morning in the Fairfield County area. Up to 6 inches or more are in the forecast.
