FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Peak trains on Metro-North's New Haven Line will operate on a reduced schedule Wednesday evening due to the weather, the commuter railroad announced.

As a result of the service change, some trains will be combined.

"This service plan represents 75 percent of our regular service and is based on lower ridership counts and our continuing efforts to protect our equipment due to the impact of the winter storm," Metro-North says on its website.

"The combined trains were chosen to minimize customer impacts and to get customers home within 10 to 15 minutes of their normal time."

After 9 p.m., trains will operate on an hourly schedule for the duration of the night.

Regular service is anticipated to resume by Thursday morning, the railroad says. However, delays are possible.

"Most of Metro-North's service territory is under a foot of snow and overnight temperatures are expected to be in the single digits," the railroad says. "Because of the continued extreme winter weather, the railroad may experience weather-related problems."

Riders are encouraged to check the Metro-North website for updates and schedule information.
