New Bridges Open On Route 8/25 In Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- After maneuvering packed shifted lanes during Stage 1 of the Route 8/25 redesign, commuters have double reason to celebrate this morning as traffic on the bridge in Bridgeport was re-opened to full capacity along with the Chopsey Hill Road on-ramp to Route 8 southbound.

Stage 2 of Route 8/25 re-design project will begin on July 16 and run through July 30.

On Route 8/25, southbound traffic has returned to the newly reconstructed southbound barrel, and both north and southbound traffic have been returned to four travel lanes.

Motorists should be aware that short term alternating closures of Capitol Avenue and Lindley Street may be required to facilitate ongoing work in this area. During any closures, detour routes will be posted to assist motorists in navigating around the work zones.

But the smooth sailing won't last for long as the Stage 2 crossover is scheduled to begin on Saturday, July 16 and remain in effect until Saturday, July 30. Stage 2 will consist of shifting northbound traffic onto the newly reconstructed southbound portion of Route 8 in Bridgeport between Exits 4 and 5.
