Jason Adams, 46, appeared in Superior Court in Danbury on Tuesday, but arguments on his application for accelerated rehabilitation were delayed until Sept. 15 because of a paperwork problem, his attorney told the News-Times.
If granted AR, Adams would serve up to two years on probation before the charges were dismissed, the News-Times said.
Adams was charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, a felony. He was placed on administrative leave after his arrest and resigned from his position as an eighth-grade science teacher at the end of the school year.
He was arrested after security personnel spotted his concealed firearm, which was loaded, Newtown police said. Adams, who lives on Currituck Road in Newtown, has a valid pistol permit, police said.
The Newtown School District said the students were not in danger at any point during the incident.
Newtown Middle School, at 11 Middle St., is less than 2 miles from Sandy Hook Elementary School, where 20 first-graders and six educators were killed three years ago in a massacre by a lone gunman.
