FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. -- A TV news reporter and a cameraman were shot and killed during a live broadcast in Franklin County, Va., on Wednesday morning by an apparent disgruntled former employee, according to multiple reports. 

Reporter Alison Parker and camera operator Adam Ward worked for CBS affiliate WDBJ-TV in Roanoke. The two were interviewing another woman about tourism in the area at approximately 6:45 a.m. when shots were fired, The Washington Post reported. 

A manhunt is under way for the suspected former employee, Vester Flanagan, 41. He is believed to be driving a 2009 silver or grey Ford Mustang with a Virginia license plate, authorities said.

Officials said Ward, 27 was shot first and Parker, 24 was shot while trying to flee, USA Today reported.

Schools in the area were placed on lockdown while authorities continue to search for the shooter, The Washington Post said. 

Authorities are currently pursuing the suspect, according to USA Today.
