The event will run from 4-7 p.m.
Fabien Cousteau, an oceanographic explorer, conservationist, documentary speaker and grandson of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, will present the keynote address.
Cousteau produced a documentary series of PBS in 2006 titled “Ocean Adventures” as well as a documentary on sharks called “Mind of a Demon.”
His nonprofit organization, Plant a Fish, empowers communities and children to help restore local aquatic ecosystems through healthy replanting of important marine species.
Most recently, his Mission 31 adventure brought Cousteau underwater in a submersible for an entire month, documenting the changing oceans from within. He continues to fulfill his family legacy, protecting and preserving our endangered marine habitats.
Before his speech, CFE/Save the Sound will present awards to individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to protecting our environment.
The honorees are:
- Westchester Community Foundation, for its support in protecting Long Island Sound.
- Trust for Public Land, for its steadfast efforts to protect the 1,000-acre coastal forest known as The Preserve.
- Ridgefield Open Space Association, for its support in protecting the Eureka lands in Ridgefield.
CFE/Save the Sound will also conduct organizational business at the meeting, including goals for the coming year, a review of the past year’s accomplishments and election of board officers.
The mission of Connecticut Fund for the Environment and its program Save the Sound is to protect and improve the land, air and water of Connecticut and Long Island Sound. It uses legal and scientific expertise to bring people together to achieve results that benefit the environment for current and future generations. Learn more about the group at its website.
