Storm Cuts Power to Thousands in Fairifeld

UPDATE, 3:45 p.m.: Power is now back on to most Fairfielders, according to U.I.'s latest report. Only 69 homes are still powerless as of 3:40 p.m.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Flooded streets weren’t the only problem caused by Thursday’s storm. United Illuminating reported that 2,723 customers in Fairfield were without power as of 2:55 p.m. The outages accounted for more than 12 percent of Fairfield's UI customers. In neighboring Bridgeport, 3,698 customers lost power, about 6.4 percent of town, and nearby Trumbull had more than 4,700 homes without power.

Fairfield’s outages shut down at least one business in town. The Fairfield Woods Branch Library was to be closed for the rest of the day due to the storm.
