Some Fairfield County residents remain without power following a series of severe thunderstorms that rolled through the area Thursday night.

Nearly 1,000 residents lost power after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued in the area by the National Weather Service just before 7 p.m., with the wind and rain most impacting the coastal towns in the county, especially Stamford, Greenwich and Darien. Numerous downed trees were also reported, including on High Ridge Road in Stamford.

“Warning — strong wind storm moving through area. Please be cautious driving and being outside,” Stamford police cautioned on Thursday night. The wind and rain led to downed trees and utility lines.

As of Friday morning at approximately 10:15 a.m., 79 Norwalk residents, 44 Greenwich residents, a dozen Darien and Stamford residents, as well as 10 Westport residents remain without power, with restoration expected before the afternoon.
