STRATFORD, Conn. -- A Stratford man with the street name "X-Ray" was charged with giving heroin to a 22-year-old woman who died of an overdose in December, prosecutor said.

Raymond J. Gordon was arrested Wednesday on a federal charge of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin, according to Deirdre M. Daly, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut, and Michael J. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration for New England.

According to court documents, on Dec. 10, Stratford Police and EMS responded to a home after receiving a report of an unresponsive 22-year-old woman. The woman, who was in her bedroom, was pronounced dead, and responding officers found wax folds containing heroin, a hypodermic needle and other drug paraphernalia in the bedroom.

They also seized her cell phone, and learned through their investigation that she had purchased heroin from Gordon shortly before she died, according to Daly.

If convicted, Gordon faces a maximum term of 20 years in prison. After appearing in court in New Haven Wednesday, a judge ordered him to be detained.
