FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The largest sunspot observed in more than 20 years is creating solar flares that could disrupt radio and other communication systems in Fairfield County and throughout the world, according to space.com.

The sunspot, which is approximately the size of Jupiter, erupted with a large, X-class, solar flare on Monday, Oct. 27, at approximately 10:47 a.m. X-Class flares are the most powerful classification of solar storms. It is the fourth such storm in as many days, space.com reported.

The most recent solar storm did prompt some radio blackouts throughout the world on Monday. Subsequent storms could create similar problems. Experts maintain that while these solar storms can be dangerous for astronauts in orbit, and for some communications systems on Earth, they are not harmful to humans on Earth, space.com said.
