The club will take on the challenge of the event for 2014 after the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce announced that it didn't have the manpower to hold it this year, upsetting children and parents alike. In a Daily Voice poll, 67 percent of the respondents said they would miss the event.
“We are very pleased that the Kiwanis Club has decided to host this traditional event and add Trick or Treat on Safety Street to their list of community projects as it perfectly dovetails with their vision and mission. The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce is happy to support the Kiwanis Club during the transition of this event and help with any new ideas,” said Beverly Balaz, Executive Director of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.
The Kiwanis Club is already holding many events and adding it to the list is a part of the clubs international mission of, "We are changing the world one child and one community at a time," Kiwanis Club President Renee Ruggiero said.
The club hasn't announced if the event will stay on the Post Road, where many local business are and where it has taken place in the past.
“I would like to thank Kiwanis for carrying on this special Fairfield tradition that delights hundreds of children year-in and year-out in a safe and fun environment. I would also like to thank the Chamber for assisting Kiwanis in the transition of this event and for all of the year-round events it sponsors to promote our Town’s businesses,” First Selectman Michael Tetreau said.
