FAIRFIELD, Conn. Three Bridgeport men were charged with attempted car burglaries in the Brooklawn section of Fairfield on Tuesday night. Jonathan DeSilva, 19; Nelson Hines, 20; and Kenny Wright, 21, were arrested while driving through the neighborhood checking for unlocked cars, police say.
A resident called police to report three black males in a gray sedan driving around Second Street late Tuesday night. The witness said the men got out of their vehicle and began pulling handles of cars parked along the street.
An officer pulled over DeSilva, Hines and Wright on Villa Avenue, just before Brooklawn Avenue. According to the police report, the officer smelled what he suspected was burnt marijuana. During a search of the car, police found the drug, along with phone chargers and cords, flashlights, screwdrivers and a scale. Through interviews, officers believed that the three were the same men seen by the Second Street witness.
All three men were charged with multiple counts of third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, attempted larceny, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy to commit burglary and larceny. DeSilva was also charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Each was released on $2,500 bond, and all three were due in court Dec. 12.
