FAIRFIELD, Conn. A Milford woman was charged with burglary and larceny after an incident at a relatives home in Fairfield on Monday. Beth Newman, 37, is accused of stealing cash and a car from the Meadowbrook Road house, police say.
The Fairfield resident told police his home had been broken into last Tuesday. A windowpane on the front door was broken, and $300 in cash and some personal checks were missing. The houses owner said he suspected his sister, Newman.
A minivan belonging to the houses resident, Newmans stepfather, was also gone. Milford police found the car parked in the lot of the Shoreline Motel in that town Tuesday night. Newman is staying at the motel, police say.
Newman was taken into police custody and charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny. She was released on a promise to appear and is due in court Jan. 17.

? Joel Quinones, 33, of Bridgeport, was charged with shoplifting at Bobs Store on the Post Road on Saturday. According to the police report, Quinones took a pair of shoes from the stores display rack and put them on. He then left the empty box and his old shoes on the stores shelves and tried to walk out without paying for the new pair. He was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on $100 bond. He is due in court Jan. 17.
