Albert Szabo, 80, Longtime Fairfield Resident, Worked At U.S. Baird

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Albert J. Szabo, 80, of Fairfield, died on Sunday, Jan. 11.

Szabo was born in Manhattan, the son of Alexander and Margaret (Marcy) Szabo. He was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, Class of 1952. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska for two years.

He began his career as a toolmaker at Ward Manufacturing and was employed at U.S. Baird in Stratford for over 39 years and retired as a Manufacturing Engineer. He was a member of the American Legion Post 143 and was also a volunteer fireman for many years for the Tunxis Hill No. 2, both in Fairfield. He enjoyed traveling, tennis, bowling and was active in the Nutmeg Senior Bowling League and looked forward to Monday night poker games and trips to the casino.

In addition to his wife, Edie (Lucas) Szabo, he is survived by special friends, Helen Morrow and Cassandra Morrow, Carole and Gary Adzima, and Phyllis and Jack Zotack. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Alexander and his wife, Connie; and his in-laws, Michael and Edith Lucas.

Friends are invited to attend his funeral on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center with the Rev. Susan Pfeil officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.
