Albert Yorke, 90, Of Fairfield, Crane Operator, Carpenter Steel

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Albert Yorke of Fairfield died Friday, Dec. 5. He was 90.

Yorke was born and raised in Bridgeport to Stephen and Nora Rzeszutek Yorke and was a graduate of Harding High School, Class of 1943. He had been a Fairfield resident for the last 54 years.

He served as a U.S. Merchant Marine in World War II from 1943 to 1945 having served in the North Atlantic and the Caribbean. A crane operator at Carpenter Steel for 34 years, he was a member of the United Steel Workers. He was a longstanding member of the Berean Memorial Church in Stratford.

Yorke is survived by his wife, Mildred Yorke of Fairfield; children, Albert J. Yorke (Donna) of Summit, N.Y., Barbara Ann Carlson (K.W.) of Oxford, Stephen D. Yorke (Katherine A. Leary) of New Rochelle, N.Y., Kimberly N. Cortigiano (Michael R.) of Wolcott; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Esther Yorke Wahl, of Stratford. He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, John and Joseph Delia and Mary Delia McDonald.

Calling hours are Monday, Dec. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at First Congregational Church, Fairfield, with military honors immediately following. Burial will be held privately.
