FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Alex J. Perigyi, of Fairfield, died Sept. 22 at his home. He was 88.
He was born in Bridgeport to Charles and Susan Gyori Perigyi. He was married to Elza Gondola Perigyi for 68 years. A Fairfield resident for more than 60 years, he served in the Army's 1748th Engineer Company during World War II.
After the war, Perigyi became a member of Local 39 Sheet Metal Workers and later retired from A&M Piping Company. He was an active member of First United Church of Christ of Bridgeport, serving in the church's Brotherhood and Consistory.
As a 32nd-degree Mason, he was a member of Fidelity-St. John's Lodge 3 in Fairfield. He was the chairman of the annual pancake fundraiser, a rental agent, an Eastern Star and advisory board member of the Rainbow Girls 21 with his daughters.
Perigyi also was active with Boy Scouts Troop 88 while his son was a member. He was a member of the American Legion Post 143 and Police Square Club and was a regular with the morning gatherings at Dunkin Donuts.
Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Lesko and Polke Funeral Home in Fairfield Center. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Church of Christ in Bridgeport. Burial with military honors will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
