Ana 'Gogo' Velasquez, 93, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Ana Velazquez of Fairfield died Sept. 23. She was 93. 

She was known to her family as "Gogo," for always being on the go. 

Born Dec. 21, 1918, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, Velasquez moved to the Bronx, N.Y., when she was 19. She worked as a seamstress in the garment district of New York City and raised her son, John, as a single mother. 

After her retirement, she moved to Fairfield and became an active member of the Parish Court Elderly Housing community. She loved walking to the grocery store, taking bus trips to the casino and bowling, which she continued until she was 87. 

Velasquez is survived by a daughter-in-law, Cathy Garcia, of Fairfield; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her son, John Garcia. 

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield. A private burial will follow.
