FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Michael J. Girardi, Sr. of Fairfield died March 6. He was 86.
Girardi was born in Bridgeport, Conn. to James and Mary Girardi. He was a U.S Navy veteran and received a Bachelor Degree of Architecture from Syracuse University in 1957. He was the owner of Michael J. Girardi Architects and Associates and a member of the AIA and NCARB. He designed the Sherman Green Gazebo and donated his work to the Town of Fairfield and also served for many years with the town’s Parking Authority. In 1970, he was the ex-aide to the ringmaster for the Barnum Festival in Bridgeport. Girardi was an active parishioner of Holy Family Church in Fairfield where he was a eucharistic minister and assisted with collections.
In addition to his wife, Helen, Girardi is survived by his sons, James Girardi (Sydney) of Easton, Pa. and Michael J. Girardi, Jr. (Natalia) of Spring Glen, N.Y.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a sister, Elizabeth Achilles of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Marie Dingee of Milford, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, James Girardi.
Calling hours are Friday at 4 to 8 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 9 at 10 a.m. directly at Holy Family Church in Fairfield. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Stratford.
