FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Barbara Balch Sokol, 91, died Friday, March 27, in Sarasota, Fla.
Born in Manchester, Conn., Sokol was a longtime resident of Easton, Fairfield and Trumbull, most recently residing in Sarasota.
In her earlier years, she worked as a physical therapist and then as a receptionist for two local pediatricians. She served as president of the PTA for Helen Keller Middle School in Easton.
She enjoyed knitting and gardening, and her love of dogs led her to raising numerous Boston terriers and collies over the years.
Survivors include her son, David Sokol and his wife, Joan, of Mount Kisco, N.Y.; her daughter, Lisa Cappiello of Lakewood Ranch, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter D. Sokol, her son, Mark T. Sokol and a son-in-law.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until noon at the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road. Burial will be private.
