Carmela York, 82, Longtime Fairfield Public Schools 'Lunch Lady'

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Carmela (Millie) York of Fairfield died Thursday, March 14. She was 82.

York was born March 1, 1931, to Constantino and Concetta Amatruda of Brooklyn, N.Y. She worked in the Fairfield Public Schools for many years, retiring as "the lunch lady" to many children.

York is survived by daughter Kathleen Mahar (Declan), of Fairfield; three granddaughters; three sisters, Phyllis McCall (Warren) of Melbourne, Fla., Lucy Saroli (Joseph) of Deer Park, Long Island, N.Y. and Elaine Granta of Brooklyn, N.Y.; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Edward.


Calling hours are Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road in Fairfield Center. Funeral Services will be held Monday March 18, at 10 a.m. directly at St. Ann Church, Bridgeport. Burial will follow at the Middletown Veteran Cemetery.
