Catherine Devaney Wallace, 87, Longtime Fairfield Resident

DUNNELLON,  Fla. - Catherine Devaney Wallace, a longtime resident of Bridgeport and Fairfield, died Friday, April 12. She was 87.

Wallace was born in Bridgeport to Agnes and Frank Devaney, she graduated from St. Patrick School and Bassick High School. She briefly attended Rhode Island College where she was recruited during World War II to work for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), a precursor to the C.I.A. in Washington D.C.  She worked at the D. M. Read Department Store and as a secretary in the Health Laboratory of the City of Bridgeport.

Wallace was a long time parishioner of St. Theresa Parish in Trumbull and St. Andrew Parish in Bridgeport.

Wallace is survived by her children, Kevin Wallace (Colleen) of Woodbridge, Barry Wallace (Charlene) of Fairfield, Brian Wallace (Janice) of Fairfield, Mary Ellen Wallace Sasso (John), of Amherst, Ohio, Tim Wallace (Kathy) of Dunnellon, Kathleen Wallace of Dunnellon and William Wallace (Molly) of Jacksonville, Ala.; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; and by her sisters, Agnes Lowrey, and Dolores Montville Fitzsimmons of Florida. She was predeceased by her parents; husband,  Robert; and brother, John F. Devaney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield. Internment will follow immediately at St. Thomas Cemetery in Fairfield.

Contributions in Wallace’s name may be sent to Broadhurst Manor in Fairfield.
