Donald Joseph McCarthy, 85, Fairfield Engineer

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Donald Joseph McCarthy, died Thursday, March 14. He was 85.

McCarthy was born in Ansonia to Daniel and Hannah Fitzgerald McCarthy. He served in the U.S. Army for 1½ years in Japan and South Korea. He retired as an engineer from Sikorsky Aircraft.

McCarthy is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Margaret McCarthy of Lebanon, Conn., and Kim McCarthy (Benjamin) Cheng of Los Angeles; sister, Lorraine Kingston; three grandchildren, a nephew,  grandnephews, a niece and a grandniece He was predeceased by his sister, Peggy Moore.

Calling hours are Monday, March 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S. Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield, CT 06824 or to The Fairfield Public Library, 1080 Old Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.
