SOUTHPORT, Conn. – Edward James Austin of Southport died Jan. 2 at Norwalk Hospital following a prolonged illness. He was 64.
He was born March 25, 1948, in Boston to Arthur and Joan Soderlund Austin. He was a resident of Southport the past 38 years. Prior to retiring in 2007, Austin was employed by Nash Engineering in Norwalk.
He was married to Marleen Sargent Austin, who survives him. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Austin served in Vietnam and was a member of the Joseph J. Clinton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 399.
He is survived by two daughters, Melanie Austin and Monica Austin, both of Southport; two sisters, JoAnn Arciola, of Westport, and Eleanor Westerhold, of Chesapeake, Va.; his father in-law, Joseph Sargent; a sister in-law, Patricia Roberts; a granddaughter; five nephews and a niece.
Funeral services were Monday at Harding Funeral Home in Westport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
