Edward R. Walsh, Jr., 88, Of Fairfield, Postal Worker, U.S. Post Office

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Edward R. Walsh, Jr. of Fairfield died Sunday, Nov. 9. He was 88.

Walsh was born in Bridgeport, to Edward R. Walsh, Sr. and Mildred McAuley Walsh. He was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School and was a U.S Navy veteran having served in World War II in the Pacific. Prior to retirement, he was a postal worker with the U.S. Post Office in Fairfield for 35 years as well as with Alimak Elevator for over five years. He was the past commander of the American Legion Post 143 and 55 year member, and the past president of the Connecticut Postal Clerks Union. He was a long time parishioner of Holy Family Church and a member of their Holy Name Society. He was one of the founding organizers of the Senior Babe Ruth Program in Fairfield, and served as their treasurer.

Walsh is survived by his wife, Lois Clancy Walsh; children, Michael Walsh (fiancé, Eleanore Fayor) of Bristol, Susan Daigle (Michael) of Stratham, N.H., Timothy Walsh of Breckenridge, Colo., and Patrick Walsh (Rosemary) of Stratford; seven grandchildren; siblings, John Walsh (Florence) of Florida and Carol Lucuk of Indiana; brother-in-law, Joseph Clancy of Huntington; and sister-in-law, Jane Hultgren of Trumbull. He was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Joan Walsh Maglione.

Calling hours are Friday, Nov. 14 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at Holy Family Church. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery with full military honors.
