Eleanor Banyas, 93, Former Fairfield Court Clerk

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Eleanor Banyas of Fairfield died Feb. 3 at Carolton Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield. She was 93.

Born June 25, 1919, in West Homestead, Pa., she was the daughter of Susan Kiss and Nicholas Banyas. She lived in Fairfield most of her life. She was a graduate of Bassick High School and worked as a legal secretary in the Bridgeport area.

Banyas also worked in the Fairfield Probate Court for many years. She was an active member of Black Rock Congregational Church for more than 73 years, teaching Sunday school for many years.

She was a member of the Ladies Fellowship and Young at Heart and led Bible study groups in her home.

Banyas was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Carletti; and four brothers, Frank Banyas, William Banyas, Anthony Banyas and Nicholas Banyas; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield. Burial will be private. Spear-Miller Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Care Ministry, Black Rock Congregational Church, 3685 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield, CT 06825.
