Elizabeth A. Szabo, 97, Longtime Fairfield Resident

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Elizabeth A. Szabo of Fairfield died Thursday, Oct. 16. She was 97.

Szabo was born in Fairfield, to Andrew and Margaret Scharz Szabo, and lived in Fairfield since 1917. She was a graduate of Holland Hill and Roger Ludlowe High School. She worked for Decca Records, Chance Vought Aircraft and for the Handy and Harmon Co for over 30 years until her retirement. She was a founding member of St. Emery's Roman Catholic Church in 1932 and previously a parishioner of the former St. Stephen Church of the West End of Bridgeport. She belonged to the St. Emery's Church Ladies Guild, seniors group and was an associate member of the Daughters of Divine Charity, Staten Island, N.Y., and the Council of Catholic Women of Bridgeport.

Szabo is survived by her nieces, Sharon Szabo of Milford (former husband Bart Bunkoci) of Stratford and Susan Csanadi (Steve) of Tennessee; a grand niece; and extended members of the Evanich family. She was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, William Szabo (Mary) and Joseph Szabo (Mildred).

Calling hours are Monday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21 in the funeral home and at 11:30 a.m. in St. Emery"s Church, 838 Kings Hwy., Fairfield with burial to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.
