FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Elvira Salese, formerly of Commack, N.Y., died Tuesday, April 9. She was 88.
Salese was born and raised in New York City, she spent most of her life in Commack before moving to Fairfield nine years ago. During WWII, she helped the war effort as a welder in Port Jarvis, N.J., and later worked as a senior clerk for the Suffolk County Planning Commission until her retirement.
Salese is survived by her husband, Albert; son, Anthony Salese (Deana) of Fairfield; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, John Navas of Chandler, Ariz., and Arthur Navas of Lindenhurst, N.Y.; sister, Ann Carol Ging of Miller Place, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Joanne Gruner; and brothers Raymond, Peter, Charles, Pasquale, Roger and Joseph.
Calling hours will be Thursday, April 10 from 4 to 9 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home , 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield, CT 06824. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11 at 11 a.m. directly at Christ the King Church, 2 Indian Head Road, Commack, N.Y. with burial to follow in Commack Cemetery.
