Eunice Patterson, 86, Formerly Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Eunice Hurd Patterson, a former Fairfield resident, died Oct. 19. She was 86.

Born Oct. 30, 1925, in Bridgeport, Patterson was the daughter of Ralph G. and Margaret Mullins Hurd. A resident of Fairfield for more than 72 years, she attended Fairfield public schools and graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1943, where she was voted “Class Cut-up” by her peers.

She married Edward T. Patterson on May 29, 1948. In her earlier years, Patterson was employed by McKesson & Robbins and was an early distributor of Mary Kay Cosmetics. She served as a past president of the St. Pius Ladies Guild, Fairfield Women's Club and Fairfield Emblem Club 389 of the Elks Lodge.

Patterson was a member of the Gaelic American Club, Women's Auxiliary of the National Association of Naval Veterans Port 5 and Daughters of the American Revolution of Eunice D. Burr. She also volunteered with the H. L. Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla.

In 1997, she retired to Sun City Center, Fla. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, sewing, antiques and traveling.

Patterson is survived by her husband; five children, Margaret (Dr. David) Snyder, of Hopkinton, N.H., Thomas E. Patterson, of Washington, D.C., Nancy M. Patterson, of Stamford, Lawrence E. Patterson, of Bridgeport, and James E. Patterson, of Stamford; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Ralph G. Hurd Jr., and sister-in-law, Dorothy Woodford Hurd.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Church in Fairfield. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Fairfield. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
