Fairfield's John C. Gfeller, 76, Founder Of Sigma Marketing Co.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - John Charles Gfeller Sr. of Fairfield died Thursday, Dec. 5. He was 76.

Gfeller was born April 2, 1937, in the Bronx, N.Y., and attended Mount Saint Michael's Academy and Syracuse University, earning a degree in business.

His career began in 1960 at General Foods Corp. in sales. In addition to his corporate career, he founded several startup companies. Leaving corporate America in 1990, he founded his final company, Sigma Marketing Co. Inc.

He was a member of Winged Foot Golf Club of Mamaroneck, Westchester Country Club of Rye and Burning Tree Country Club of Greenwich as well as several industry associations. He served volunteer positions on the boards of several of his clubs as well as the Fairfield College Preparatory School at Fairfield University.

Gfeller is survived by his wife, Lorraine Ann Gfeller; children Lisa Ann Gfeller (f/k/a Laudadio) of Fairfield, and John Charles Gfeller Jr. (Melanie) of Mount Laurel, N.J.; three grandchildren; brother, Dr. Robert John Gfeller Sr. (Jacqueline Ann) of Bloomfield; a niece and nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; great-grand-nieces and great-grandn-nephews; and brother-in-law, Richard Jaccarino (Gloria) of Redding. He was predeceased by his daughters, Ann-Marie and Kathryn Ann Gfeller; granddaughter, Kathryn Lorraine Laudadio; and great-nephew, Matthew Alan Gfeller.

Calling hours are Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S. Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield, with interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwich.
