FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Frances Rita Gulis Gaspierik of Fairfield died July 31 at her home. She was 96.
Born to Ambrose and Gabriella Gulis, Gaspierik was a lifelong Fairfield resident and parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. She was married to the late Edward E. Gaspierik for 59 years.
Gaspierik worked at Fairfield University for 25 years. She also volunteered thousands of hours at Bridgeport Hospital. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and baking. Gaspierik was proud of her Slovak heritage and her family said she had a sweet and gentle manner.
She is survived by three daughters, Susan Erskine, of Creamery, Pa., Rita Gaspierik, of Hamden, Conn. and Mary Stevens, of Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gaspierik was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Sehl and Helen Schaalman.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home in Fairfield Center.
