ORANGE, Conn. - George Anthis of Orange died Oct. 7. He was 81.
Anthis was born March 8, 1932, in Corfu, Greece, son of Nicolas and Maria Anthis. Prior to coming to this country, he served in the Greek National Police for 15 years. He came here in 1969 and began a restaurant career, operating The Elm Diner in West Haven for 20 years followed by The Fairfield Diner in Fairfield, The Shoreline Diner in Guilford and Georgie's Diner in West Haven.
Anthis is survived by his wife, Irene Papadapoulos Anthis; son, Nikolas Anthis; daughter, Georgette (Greg) Kapetaneas both of Fairfield; brother, Konstantinos Anthis; and sister, Eftihia Vitouladitis both in Greece. He was predeceased by his parents.
Calling hours are Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St., New Haven. Funeral services will be held in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange Thursday, Oct. 10 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Orange Center Cemetery.
