George William Pekar, 91, Fairfield Native

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- George William Pekar, 91, formerly of Fairfield, died Saturday, Aug. 8 at St. Josephs Center in Trumbull where he resided the last two and half years.

He was born in his parents home in Fairfield on September 24,1923 eighth of nine children. He attended Roger Ludlow High School and was also a graduate of Pratt Art Institute in New York.

George showed a talent for art from an early age and had a successful career in commercial art. He served in the US Marine Corp during World War II in the Pacific theater . He was a loyal communicant at St. Johns Carpatho Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church and an active member of St. Emery's Seniors .

He is survived by his sister, Barbara McLeod, his sister in law Jeanne Pekar and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. directly at St. Emery's Church in Fairfield. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Stratford with full Military Honors. There will be no prior calling hours.
