George A. Zygmant, Lifelong Fairfield Resident, Retired IBM Employee

SOUTHPORT, Conn. - George A. Zygmant, a lifelong resident of Southport, died Saturday, Sept. 6. He was 60.

Zygmant was born to Rose Zygmant and Anthony Zygmant. He retired from IBM after 30 years of employment. He was a newly appointed member of the Shellfish Commission in Fairfield and was a 42-year member of the Southport Volunteer Fire Department. He served as an usher at St. Anthony's Church.

Zygmant is survived by his mother, Rose; sister, Linda Z. Gworek (Robert) of Clinton; niece, Kristen of Brookline, Mass.; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Anthony.

Calling hours are Thursday, Sept. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral will held Friday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. from Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.

Contributions may be made in Zygmant's memory to the Southport Volunteer Fire Department.
