FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Gilio Ventresca of Fairfield died Oct. 23 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, with family by his side. He was 81.
Born Oct. 1, 1931, in Introdacqua, Abruzzi, Italy, he was the son of Antonio and Raffaella Tiberi Ventresca. A master carpenter, he worked in Venezuela for several years before moving to the United States.
Ventresca was employed as a construction project superintendent by E & F Construction Co. in Bridgeport for 35 years. He was also a member of the Local 210 Carpenters Union.
In his retirement, Ventresca enjoyed keeping a large garden. He was also a longtime member of the Duke of Abruzzi Social Club in Bridgeport.
Ventresca is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eleanor Ventresca; three children, Robert (Sharon) Ventresca, of Branford, Susan Ventresca (John) Neikirk, of Bethel, and Marc (Jennifer) Ventresca, of Trumbull; a brother, Giovanni (Sylvana) Ventresca, of Bergamo, Italy; three sisters, Vanilia Monaco, of Introdacqua, Elisa Faiella, of Sulmona, Italy, and Lina (Guido) Salvatore, of Bridgeport; and six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home in Trumbull. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Fairfield. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Yale-New Haven Hospital or St. Vincent's Medical Center.
