Helen Grabowski, 91, Longtime Fairfield Resident

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Helen Dorothy Grabowski of Fairfield died Sept. 6 at her home. She was 91. 

Born Feb. 8, 1921 in New Milford, Conn., she was the daughter of Albert and Katarzyna Docktor. She was raised on a farm there on Old Pumpkin Hill Road and lived in Fairfield for nearly 50 years. 

She was married to Matthew Grabowski, who predeceased her. She worked as a hairdresser at a salon in the 1950s and later in various elder care agencies throughout the area. 

Grabowski was a member of the Ladies Guild at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Bridgeport for more than 40 years. She enjoyed many friendships as a member of the Canasta Card Playing Ladies and Women's Bowling League at Nutmeg Lanes, where she bowled for more than 40 years. 

She is survived by two children, Michael (Nancy) Grabowski and Cynthia (Keith) Perham, both of Fairfield; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers, John, Theodore, Edward, Albert and Joseph; and four sisters, Anna, Alice, Josephine and Eleanor. 

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Bridgeport. Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield handled arrangements. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Church, 310 Pulaski St., Bridgeport, CT 06608.
