Irena Dawidowicz, 89, Longtime Fairfield Resident

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Irena Kitowska Dawidowicz, a former 50-year resident of Fairfield, died Jan. 7. She was 89.

Born Nov. 21, 1923, in Tczew, Poland, she was the daughter of Leon and Anna Moszczynska Kitowski. She was married for 35 years to Jan Dawidowicz, who predeceased her.

Dawidowicz was named Woman of the Year by the Polish Heritage Society, where she had various positions, including president. She also was a member of the P.N.A. Polish Union 315 and the Kosciuszko Foundation of New York. She most recently was of Trumbull.

She is survived by a son, Michael "Mick" (Ursula) Dawidowicz, of St. Prex, Switzerland; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Hill Dawidowicz, of Georgia; a brother, Marian Kitowski, of Poland; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Bogdan Dawidowicz.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Bridgeport. Burial will follow at Lawncroft Burial Park in Fairfield. Visitation will start at 9:15 a.m. before the service at Commerce Hill Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kosciuszko Foundation, Polish Heritage School, 15 East 65th St., New York, NY 10021.
