James Lawther, 80, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- James Lawther, 80, beloved husband of Sheila Brennan Lawther, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Stirling, Scotland on April 19, 1935, he was the eldest son of the late William and Mary McCarroll Lawther.

Before his retirement, Lawther was a driver with United Parcel Service for more than 32 years, as well as operating a handyman and carpentry business for many years.

In addition to his wife Sheila of 58 years, survivors include his children, Caroline Fain of Monroe, Kevin Lawther of Fla. and Elizabeth Buttiker and her husband Derek of Trumbull, a sister, Ann Selness of Wallingford, two brothers, George Lawther and his wife Betty of Centerbrook, Gerard Lawther and his wife Susan of Scotland, six grandchildren, Jonathan and Luke Fain, Emily James Lawther, Sophie Lawther, and Jacob and Catherine Buttiker, as well as many nieces and nephews both in the United States and Scotland.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kaitlin Elizabeth Fain, a sister, Elizabeth Whyte and a brother, William Lawther.

Friends are invited to meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private.

Family and friends may call on from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
