James McCarroll, 88, Of Fairfield, Worked For United Illuminating Company

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - James "Scotty" McCarroll of Fairfield died July 23. He was 88.

McCarroll was born to George and Annie McCarroll and raised in Scotland. He served in the British Army during World War II and worked as a coal miner in Scotland for 20 years before coming to the United States in 1968. Briefly living in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, he settled with his family in Fairfield 42 years ago, and was an electrical engineer for United Illuminating Company for 24 years and a part time driver for the Connecticut Limousine Service for 22 years before his retirement.

He was a member of Holy Family Church. He was a longtime member of the Gaelic American Club.

McCarroll is survived by his daughter Claire, and her companion, Christopher Cappella, of Bridgeport; sister, Betty Mooney, of Scotland; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; wife Maureen Bolan McCarroll; and nine siblings.

Calling hours are Wednesday, July 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home , 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 31 at 11 a.m. directly in Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield. His interment will be private.
