SOUTHPORT, Conn. - Joan B. Alcure of Southport died Thursday, Dec. 26. She was 79.
Alcure was born in Laredo, Texas; daughter of Edward and Iona Beckelhymer. She had been a Southport resident for the last 44 years. She moved to New York City from Texas to start a career as an airline stewardess with Eastern Airlines where she met her husband John, and later settled in Southport to raise their family, where she began her own interior design business, Joan B. Alcure Design.
Alcure is survived by her daughters, Lisa A. Bohn (Wayne) of Bentonville, Ariz., and Laura L. Guilmette of Bridgeport; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews residing in Texas. She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Alcure.
Calling hours are Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
