NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Joan Louise Bernstein "JB" of New Haven died Wednesday, Dec. 25. She was 79.
Bernstein was born Nov. 17, 1934, to Albert Beck and Yvette Beck (Greenberg) in Bridgeport. She was a Bridgeport and Fairfield resident for many years before moving to New Haven. She was the former wife of Dr. Marshall Bernstein. She attended Simmons College Boston, graduated Sacred Heart University and received her Masters at Southern CT State College. She taught English at Southern and Gateway Community College, and taught students English as a second language. She volunteered at the Suicide Prevention Hotline, and was employed by the Regional Water Authority.
Bernstein is survived by her son, (David) and Linda Bernstein of Fairfield; and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Karen Bernstein; and brother, Don Beck.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. in the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Ave., Bridgeport. Burial will be in Loyalty Cemetery Fairfield.
