Raised in Fairfield, Steers was educated at Fairfield Country Day School, Fairfield College Preparatory School and received his bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina.
He enjoyed traveling, ultimately visiting 49 states, after which he began his career in the financial industry. A tremendously talented athlete, he was a nationally ranked tennis player, an avid golfer and loved everything to do with fishing, hunting and the great outdoors.
Steers met his future wife, Kate, and became an involved father and an active participant in his girls' activities. He had a strong love of family, and shared a very close relationship with his sister and his parents, with special admiration for his dad.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his parents, Roger and Patricia Steers of Napa, Calif., formerly of Fairfield; sister, Lesley O'Connell and her husband, Joseph of Westport.
A memorial service celebrating Steers' life will be held Thursday, Oct. 8, at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church at 2 p.m. The church is at 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield. Interment will be private.
