John Joseph Novak, 68, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – John Joseph Novak, Jr., a longtime Fairfield resident, died on Saturday, June 20, in Charleston, S.C. He was 68.

Novak was born on Feb. 27, 1947, to John Joseph Novak and Anne O'Driscoll in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens in New York City.

He graduated from Fairfield University and Columbia Law School, going on to practice law at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, and Spengler, Carlson, Gubar, Brodsky & Frischling in New York City and Lep Profit Freight Systems in Atlanta.

Novak is survived by his wife, Karen Rose Novak, his sons, John Joseph Novak III and his wife Carly of Deerfield, Ill., and Justin Paul Novak and his wife, Sara of Charleston, S.C., his three grandchildren, Will Spencer Novak, Reese Stella Novak, and Keegan Ellis Novak, his sister, Cathy Novak Viviano of Scarsdale, N.Y., and brother, Paul Christopher Novak of Danvers, Mass.

Visiting hours are on Friday, June 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S. Benson Road in Fairfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road in Fairfield.

Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave. in Hawthorne.
