John Richard Youngs, Sr., 85, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - John Richard Youngs, Sr. of Fairfield died Sept. 26. He was 85.

Youngs was born Sept. 16, 1929, to Donald H. Youngs, Sr. and Beatrice (Hoffman) Youngs, and grew up in Freeport, Ill., (Freeport High School 1947). He received his B.S. (Business Administration) from the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign (1952) and his M.B.A. (Business Administration) from New York University (1958). He served in the Army (1st lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps) in Germany from 1952 to 1953. Following military service, he was an IBM executive and worked for the New York Stock Exchange. He became first vice president at Shearson, Hammill & Co and also served at the Securities & Exchange Commission as senior officer in market relations. For the last 40 years, he was president of Youngs Target Investment Advisors. He was a member of the Fairfield Beach Club.

Youngs is survived by his wife, Dee Abbott Youngs; children, Jack Youngs of Atlantic City, N.J., Carol (Richard) Reed of Leicester, Vt., Jim (Berthelle) Youngs of Hooper, Utah, Kristin (David) MacLaughlin of Exton, Pa., and Terry (Noelle) Bouton of Baltimore, Md.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Donald Youngs, Jr. He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Youngs.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at The Acoustic Cafe, 2926 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport.
